LIFE EXCELLENCE TIPS

The exercises and suggestions below are designed to be fun and uplifting.  Why not try them out for a test period, a day to a week is enough to make the world of difference.

HAPPY MEMORY TIME

Devote some time to thinking about your most happiest memories (if you don't have many then focus on how you can create them starting from today).  The one think about what makes you happiest in your life at the moment.  Finally spend some time thinking about what would make you even happier in the future.  Completing this exercise once a day for only a week will improve your mood tremendously.

'I went to the beach with a friend and her young daughter Sam.  I noticed Sam was standing by the water with her eyes closed and her arms out to her sides, I asked her what she was doing and she replied, 'I'm making a memory'........

IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, CHANGE IT!

Feel like a square peg trying to fit into a round hole in any area of your life?  If something doesn't fit do something and change it!  We live in a world of plenty you only have to choose to grasp what is out there.

 SPREAD HAPPY GOSSIP

Be the first to celebrate and tell family and friends about peoples achievements.  We often rush to the

phone to tell people all about the 'bad' news but rarely mention the 'good' stuff!

SNUB THE NEWS!

Go on a News diet for a week and see how much better you feel.  Too much bad news causes us to focus on negative events.  Live in a positive world for a little while, seek out good news only.

News diet – too much bad news is just that, too much.  You don’t need to be reminded of negative events or of how dangerous a place to live this world is three times a day, so switch it off and live a day in a completely positive world.

LEAVE THE PHONE RING

Don't be a slave to your telephone.  If you are in the middle of something that you enjoy let it ring and go to voicemail.  Often the phone rings at the wrong moment, when we are reading to our kids, cuddling our partners or just snatching some quiet alone time, savour these moments.

RELIVE THE EXCITEMENT OF PLAY

Many people have not picked up a drawing pencil or paint palatte since their art teachers criticised their work at school!  Paint or draw something today, forget ability and focus on colour, ideas and the excitement of creativity and play.  If you want to improve your skills and be drawing as well as Picasso within an hour (seriously)  I recommend the excellent book 'Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain - How to Unlock Your Hidden Artistic Talent - by Betty Edwards.

REWARD YOURSELF

Write a reward list of things you would like to do or items you would like to own.  Reward yourself each time you take a step towards improving your life.  Rewards can include having some alone time, taking time to read a book or have a long soak in the bath.  Perhaps you want to play golf, go for a night out with friends, shop for exciting items, buy yourself flowers, eat your favourite meal or have a massage, the choices are yours go to it!

APPRECIATE OUR WORLD

Look up at the sky, really look, spend a while watching the clouds go by.  Remember when you used to spend time spotting shapes of animals, people or objects in the clouds, how easy it was, how calming and wonderful it felt.  Look up at the stars at night, on a clear night go out and lie down somewhere and just absorb the wonder of our night sky.

LIVING WITH DEPRESSION? OR FEEL HAPPY NOW!

Read a book designed to increase your happiness.  Not one of the devastatingly sad stories where people have overcome insurmountable odds, I mean something really positive all the way through.  Academic texts also often focus on why you are unhappy rather than how you can get happy, find the books that show you how to improve your life and give advice that can make a difference to you immediately.  I recommend something like Paul Mckenna’s Change Your Life in 7 Days or Michael Neil’s Feel Happy Now!  Anything by Anthony Robins is great.  Also the books due out by NLP creator Richard Bandler will undoubtedly be amazing.

FEELING STRESSED?

Go out and find water.  Sit by a lake and feed the Ducks.  Go to the beach and listen to the waves crashing.  Put a waterfall in your garden.  Go swimming.  Watch fish in a tank.
